2016 VIENTIANALE SHORT FILM COMPETITION WINNERS ANNOUNCED!
Following a fantastic screening of all 39 entries into this year’s Vientianale Short Film Competition, along with six shorts created in the Art of Short Filmmaking workshop run throughout the Mini Vientianale, the winners were announced at the Cultural Hall!
Congratulations to the winners of the 2016 Vientianale Short Film Festival:
1st Prize: Without Mindfulness ຂາດສະຕິ, directed by Novice BOUASY ສຳມະເນນ ບົວສີ
2nd Prize: Sinh ສິ້ນຜືນສຸດທ້າຍ, directed by Mitpasa SITTIHANKPANYA ນາງ ມິດປະຊາ ສິດທິປັນຍາ
3rd Prize: Smack That Mosquito ຕົບຍຸງ, directed by Soukthavone PANYAPHONE ທ້າວ ສຸຖາວອນ ປັນຍາພອນ

A special thank you to our special guest jury:
Director Mattie Do’s debut, ‘Chanthaly,’ was the first Lao horror film, and the first Lao film to screen at major film festivals outside of Southeast Asia. She is an alumni of the Cannes Film Festival’s World Cinema Factory and the Toronto International Film Festival’s Talent Lab. Her second feature ‘Dearest Sister’ will be released in the fall of 2016.
Souliya Phoumivong is an artist and the first claymation expert in Laos. He is the creator of ‘Ban Kon Khoy’, a children’s television series supported by Unicef. Souliya is also an art professor at the Fine Arts Institute.
Xaisongkham Induangchanthy (aka ‘Khamski’) is a Lao independent feature and short filmmaker and a co-founder of Lao New Wave Cinema – a collective of emerging filmmakers in Laos.
Peter Pan is a director, cinematographer, editor, motion graphic designer, and a co-founder of Chillax Productions video production house. With more than 15 years of experience in video production and events audio visual, Peter’s professional experience ranges from small budget projects to large film production, international event and live broadcasting.
Simmany Keokene is the head of the film control section at the Department of Cinema, Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism. She is in charge of controlling the content of Lao and international films imported into Laos, and has coordinated the Department’s long-running partnership with Vientianale.
All competition entries are screened and awards presented on the final evening of the festival, Sunday March 13, at the Cultural Hall. We can’t wait for you to see what these filmmakers have come up with!
